MARSABIT – The Cradle of Mankind
You could call us tourists!
Our trip to Marsabit took us through eight Counties, isn’t that interesting? These were: Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Karatina, Nyeri, Isiolo, Samburu and Laikipia. This was made possible by eMentoringAfrica and Abrassa Mentorship and Empowerment Network (AMEN) who partnered for the three day youth mentorship event in February, 2017 at Gof Hotel in Saku. The objective was to enlightenthe youth under the eMentoring Africa’s PASS IT ON program which has four pillars namely: Careers, Entrepreneurship, Talent Commercialization and Volunteerism. The participants came fromthefollowing four sub-counties of Marsabit:Saku, North Horr, Moyale and Laisamis. The participants had a chance to know and meet their County youth leaders like: Youth Bunge Forum Marsabit president Issack, The National Youth Council Marsabit Adan Mulata, Youth Department Chief Officer Ms. FatmaWario, Youth Principal Officer Mr. Ibrahim, and Youth Alliance Officer Mr. Rahma. They also got to know more about what their County Government offered in the areas of:
- Capacity building programs,
- Campaign against early marriages, FGM and Substance abuse
- Sporting activities like football leagues, athletic and volleyball tournaments.
- Vocational Training Centre for youths (free) which offer masonry, tailoring and mechanic.
- Computer Literacy Program at Ksh. 3,000 per trainee.
The discussion along the four pillars was led by eMentoring Africa through panel discussions followed by a question and answer session and later group discussions on each pillar.
Hey! We had fun too! There were breaks, ice breaking and team building that were carefully selected to pass a message in the area of soft skills or life skills. After the event eMentoringAfrica took time to share with the female participants who were very concerned about ways to help others ladies in the villages who were not able or not aware of the event.
On the last day there was a tree planting event that took place at ‘KofiaMbaya’ near Tahidi High School. The MCA of Saku kicked off the exercise by planting the first tree, followed by Ms. Fatma and thereafter our dear Chief Executive Officer Ms. Esther Muchiri, and after that the participants joined in the planting.
