KenGen, eMentoring Africa Graduate First NurtureHER Cohort to Advance Women’s Leadership

KenGen, in partnership with eMentoring Africa, celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of the NurtureHER Mentorship Program at Safari Park Hotel on March 6, 2026, aligning with International Women’s Day under the theme “Give to Gain.”

This six-month structured program, part of KenGen’s Pink Energy – Developing Potential initiative, supported the personal and professional growth of 26 active mentees through 18 dedicated mentors engaged on the eMENTORED platform. Over 100 assignments were completed, alongside virtual and in-person sessions, covering multiple learning modules.

“It is wonderful to see so many incredible women gathered here today; ready to Give to Gain! On behalf of eMentoring Africa, I am truly honored to celebrate the graduation of Cohort 1 of the NurtureHER Mentorship Program. A group of dedicated mentors who gave of their time, wisdom, and experience so that mentees could gain,” said eMentoring Africa CEO, Esther Muchiri.

She recalled the program’s origins: “I remember vividly the birth of the NurtureHER program — a time when a group of committed women at KenGen came together, driven by a passion to design a mentorship program to support female employees across four key areas: knowledge sharing, networking and relationships, ethics and wellness, and diversity and inclusion.”

She especially lauded the exemplary leadership of Ms. Julie Mwaluma and Felicity Otieno; a duo who, supported by other coordinators, Vicky Kaloki and Elishibah Msengeti, ensured that the program progressed despite challenges.

She noted that as the journey progressed, there were fast runners who completed multiple tasks and others who moved at a slower pace but still made meaningful effort. Collectively, all participants were celebrated; not for perfection, but for their commitment. This included taking the step to sign up as mentors or mentees, attending mentorship trainings, joining expert webinars, engaging on the platform, and utilizing its video conferencing tools for meaningful mentorship conversations.

The chief guest at the event was Hon. Lady Justice Hellen Amolo Omondi, Judge of the Court of Appeal and President of the International Association of Women Judges – Kenya Chapter.

“We rise by lifting others; when we give, we don’t lose anything. Commitment and encouraging one another on the potential of women — iron sharpens iron. Support for women must be visible. We need each other; we only grow when we give,” she said.

Other distinguished guests included Hon. Lady Justice Jane Onyango; Chair of Pink Energy, Beatrice Chebelyon Koske; Hon. Rebecca Kudate and Hon. Rehema Hassan (Board Members); GM Corporate Services, Beatrice Kandie; Patron Pink Energy, Elizabeth Njenga, OGW; KenGen Managers; Pink Energy Leadership; NurtureHER Coordinators; mentees and mentors; and the eMentoring Africa team.

Certificates and tokens of appreciation marked this milestone for participants and sponsors, setting a strong foundation for future cohorts to further strengthen women’s participation in leadership and strategic roles across Kenya’s energy sector and beyond. Both KenGen and eMentoring Africa reaffirmed their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through mentorship-driven leadership development.
